About Doxapolis

Summary

The name "Doxapolis" stems from the two greek words "Doxa" and "Polis" which mean "Glory" and "City" respectively. Hence, a direct translation would be "City of Glory".

Doxapolis is a unique social gaming portal where you showcase your tastes in the finer things in life while using your business acumen and street saviness to build the most formidable empire around. It is a "relaxed strategy interactive gaming portal" where you compete to have the best residence, the best items, best vehicles and be a part of the strongest house in Doxapolis city.
By "relaxed strategy", we mean you don't have to log hours and hours of gameplay to be competitive. Everything is simplified and all you have to do is make wise decisions to get ahead. It is built for gamers and non-gamers alike, basically any one with social networking experience and some business acumen can become a Doxapolis dignitary.

Doxapolis is also built as a platform to display and share tastes in fashion, accessories, interior design and much more amongst friends and others.

You are also provided with various social tools to interact with friends and competitors: chatrooms, newsfeeds, raffles, gifts, flashgames and a forum to name a few.

As you personal wealth grows, you move up the social ladder until you live in a castle with private jets, maids, chefs and so on, living the life. Getting ahead of the competition isn't going to be easy, but that is part of what Doxa is all about: you get to learn and try out business-savvy moves, monetary risks, social dynamics and much more that could come in quite handy in the real world.

This thread is updated regularly with all the changes and additions on Doxapolis.

How to play

Your objective is to become the trendiest urbanite in Doxapolis by systematically amassing wealth in the face of competition and strategically using it to overcome game obstacles.

  1. You are automatically assigned a room (profile) and can be part of only one house at any point in time.

  2. You are able to generate flos (Doxapolis currency) in different ways .

  3. You use the money you generate to buy items from the marketplace. The items will be added to your room.

  4. The items you buy have a parameter called "splendor" which is a measurement of how "cool" the item is and also a measure of how much "splendor tithe" you get in return.

  5. Once your room has over 500 points in splendor, you are able to attack other rooms/houses with weapons you buy from the market place.

  6. Your house can own and control any of the estates and hence share the profits received from the Skewlgate trips.

  7. There is a weekly screen shot of the top residences and top houses. Your objective is to make it into these weekly lists.

  8. The Activity Index is a measure of how active you are on the platform. Currently it is increased when you buy an item, when you visit an estate, and when you destroy someone elses item.

  9. Once you have amassed an Activity Index of 200 and splendor of 25,000, you are able to upgrade your residence into something cooler and more upper class, a bungalow. You now get to have a garage which means you can own all sort of cool vehicles.

  10. You continue to move up the Doxapolis social ladder (duplexes, penthouses, mansions etc) by accumulating the needed levels of Splendor and A.I using your savviness and our various tools on the platform until you own one of the 3 castles in Doxapolis city and all your friends are your subjects.

There are various ways for social interaction e.g walls, pics and picture comments, house walls, public chat, house private lounges (for private meetings, strategy discussions etc amongst house members), tourist destination reviews, forums and much more.

Invest your cash for a profits/losses.
Stocks are largely always more profitable over time.
The share values change once a day.
Attacks
When you attack another user's residence and successfully destroy one of his items,
you are rewarded with a certain amount of money.

Real Estate & Companies
Your house can purchase and run estates and companies(expensive but worthwhile investments). Your house gets all the revenue from Skewlgate Travel when users visit your estate (think Monopoly). Companies on the other hand own items in the marketplace and you earn revenue when an item is purchased. You will have to restock items when they run out.
House members can choose to share or spend this revenue however they decide.
Stumble
Basically, when you click on the icon (on "my desktop"), It takes you to a randomly selected Doxapolis page (estates, items, vehicles etc). There is an hidden prize in one of these pages and the more you stumble, the higher the likelihood of you finding this prize. This could be anything from a voucher in the marketplace to a booster which increases your residence splendor when you 'cash' it. You can only win one stumble prize every 24 hours.
Flos
Currency of the Doxapolis, makes it go round...and round. Have fun earning and spending it.

Splendor (a.k.a Allure)

A measure of how cool your residence is. One of the major goals of the game is to have the best residence. 10% of your splendor is given back to you as income on a daily basis(splendor tithe), so you can get even more splendor! For example, If your residence has 1000 splendor points (or carats), you earn a daily income of 100 flos just for maintaining a cool residence.

How to acquire Splendor

The primary way is by buying stuff from our marketplace; house items, clothes, vehicles etc that you like. This is also a way to show off your design and fashion tastes to the community and friends.

Jobs

Doxapolis Job

A doxapolis job is another major way to generate flos in the Doxa-economy.

A worker provides shield and splendor to his/her employer as service.

The employer pays the wages of the worker (in flos).

You are limited to working 60 hours per week or a maximum of three different jobs at any point in time.

Your pay and quality of service depends not only on the type of job but also your job experience.

There are mainly three sections where you can find/create jobs: Vehicle jobs, Residence Jobs and Estate jobs.

A worker has the right to quit his/her job at any time. You can quit your job on this page.

An employer has the right to fire a worker, but has to pay two weeks wages as compensation. You can fire employees on this page.

You are not allowed to work for yourself.

Wages and services are paid out once the employee checks-in to the job every 24 hours. Hence it is important to employ people who check in regularly.

An employee gets an extra A.I point everytime he/she check-in.

If you are an employer, you get an extra A.I point daily, regardless of the action of your employees.

Recruiting more users to Doxa could help alleviate a projected shortfall in available manpower.

Vehicle Jobs

There are certain vehicles that create jobs. e.g. if you have a yacht, then a staff to look after the yacht comes in handy...or if you have a limo, a driver is a good idea. While if you have a porsche, you are expected to do your own driving.

Services of a vehicle employee add to the splendor and shield of the vehicle, the wages are taken from the account of the vehicle owner.

Employment in a vehicle automatically terminates once the vehicle is past its lifespan.

If a vehicle is sold, the new owner of the vehicle becomes the employer.

To hire a vehicle employee: Once you purchased a vehicle that creates job opportunities, go to the employee tab on your profile page, there is a section "Employee positions yet to be advertised and filled": You will see the possibilities there, click on the loudspeaker icon beside the job you will like to advertise and edit/submit the form that opens to advertise the job on our vacancies page. People can now apply for this job. Applications will be shown in your notifications page. You can accept or decline the application.

Residence Jobs

These are jobs that are directly related to the residence level. Residence job opportunities start from the Duplex level and increase as you move up.

Services of a residence employee add to the splendor and shield of the residence, the wages are taken from the account of the residence owner.

Employment in a residence automatically terminates once the owner changes levels.

If a vehicle is sold, the new owner of the vehicle becomes the employer.

To hire a residence employee: Once you are at a residence level that creates job opportunities, go to the employee tab on your profile page, there is a section "Employee positions yet to be advertised and filled": You will see the possibilities there, click on the loudspeaker icon beside the job you will like to advertise and edit/submit the form that opens to advertise the job on our vacancies page. People can now apply for this job. Applications will be shown in your notifications page. You can accept or decline the application.

Estate Jobs

These are job opportunities that come up from estate ownership. The leader of the house that owns the estate is the de-facto employer and controls the advertising and hiring of estate workers.

Services of an estate employee are directly tallied to the shield of the estate, but in the case of splendor, a tenth of the normal splendor such job quality provides (in residence or vehicle sections) is added to the splendor of all the members of the house that own the estate.

Wages are directly taken from the house account.

If the estate changes owners, the leader of the house that owns the estate becomes the de-facto employer.

To hire an estate employee: You have to be the creator or leader of the house that owns the estate. Go to the estate management page, there will be a section "Employee positions yet to be advertised and filled": You will see the possibilities there, click on the loudspeaker icon beside the job you will like to advertise and edit/submit the form that opens up to advertise that job on our vacancies page. People can now apply for this job. Applications will be shown in your notifications page. You can accept or decline the application.

To fire an estate employee: Go to the estate management page.

Note: Only the leader/creator of the house that owns an estate can perform these tasks.

Games & challenges

Challenge

A challenge pits you in direct showdown with another user in a game of your choice. Once you challenge a player, you have to set a score in the chosen game and your adversary has to try and beat that score in his/her first try. If he/she beats it, the incentive is on you to beat the new top score. Whoever fails to beat the set top score will lose the challenge. Participating in a challenge earns you 5 flos. Winning the challenge earns you an additional 25 flos.

How do I challenge someone?

You can challenge anyone by going to their residence or user profile, in the light green box called "Actions", you select a game and click on "now!" to set your score in that game. You can also challenge a friend by using the form in the right bar navigation under the section - "My challenges". Or you can go to the Challenge pool to challenge any user on the platform.

My Residence
This is a basic part of the platform. Everyone has a residence and new users are automatically assigned to a room. There are no homeless in Doxapolis.

Residence levels

We have 6 residence levels.
Rooms | Flats | Duplexes | Penthouse suites | Mansions | Castles ...in ascending order.
It is your primary goal to move through the levels and eventually attain the best possible residence for yourself.
You do this by primarily accumulating Splendor and A.I. points with time.

Residence Insurance

This is your first line of defence against enemy attacks.
You are immune to intrusion once you purchase it.
It usually lasts 36 hours and then you need to renew it again.
The cost of insurance depends on the residence splendor.

Residence shield

This is the 2nd line of defence against enemy attack on your residence. As long as you have it, it will absorb all the brunt of attacks on your residence until its depleted. Shield is bought from the Marketplace

Magicshield

This is a magical method to protect your residence. It can only be obtained by skewlgate travel (rolling dice) to some choice estates.
Beware, just like any other magic, it is fallible and can be neutralized with a magicshield blaster.

Attacking other residences

We dont condone violence, but when someone or a group of people piss you off, you have a way to retaliate. You do this by buying weapons from the marketplace, going to the residence in question, and onloading (if the residence is not protected).
The damage and items you destroy depend on the ferocity of your attacks.
You get an activity point for every item you destroy.
You can only attack residences (people) within a 150 activity index range of you. This is to prevent bullying of new users by older users.

Take note that attacking can be quite expensive and do not get too emotional if attacked...remember its just a game:)

Residence Essentials

These are the basic items you need to have in your room. You are required to have atleast 500 flos worth of essentials before you can purchase room accessories.

Residence accesories

These are the items with more splendor and generally more diverse.

Wardrobe items

These consist of clothing, fashion accessories and hand held electronic gadgets. You can purchase a cool collection from the Marketplace.

Item Shield

This determines how much attack the item can withstand before being destroyed. You should pay close attention to this metric before making purchases.

Backgrounds

Use these to customize the look of your residence(page). Credits to backgroundcity.com and squidfingers.com for the images.

Weapons

Weapon Refill

Oil, Water, Paint...these are the liquids you purchase and use to attack a residence or house, they have a metric called "hitpower" which shows how effective they are at causing damage. For example, paint with a hitpower of 3 causes more damage than water with a hitpower of 1 when an equal volume of each liquid is used to attack.

Weapon Carriers

You can choose from a variety of weapon carriers e.g water Gun, water ballon, Bucket. They have a metric called "hitpower" which shows how effective they are in causing damage. For example, the gun with a hitpower of 5 causes more damage than the a hose with a hitpower of 4 when an equal volume of liquid is used to attack in each carrier.

The carriers also have a "lifespan" which tells you how long they last once purchased. Except the balloon which can be used just once. The "Volume" parameter tells you the maximum amount of liquid each weapon carrier can have at any point.

Real Estate

Real Estate

These are pieces of land or gems of history that a house can own and control (only within the game ofcourse). You get to visit an estate everyday (and learn something new) by dialling Skewlgate Travels when you throw your dice.

Estate Gate fee

This is the amount you pay for visiting an estate.
The fees are proportional to the buying price of the estate and can be increased by buying more property for the estate.

Estate Shield

Like the residence and item shields, this is your line of defence against intruders and houses/individuals looking to violently takeover your estate.

How do I own a estate?

Currently, only houses can own estates.
A house can acquire one by directly buying from "Skewlbuoy Holdings".
To start up, a house can purchase its first estate on credit.
You do this by going to the estate page and clicking the big red button (duh). Only the house leaders can do this (so we don't have chaos). Once an estate is owned by another house and your house wants that particular estate, a house leader can either make a cash bid for this estate and wait for the response, or if you like it rough, your house members can attack the house that controls the estate.
House attacks deplete the estate shields .

The house of the member who takes out the remnant shield of an estate gets to takeover that estate.

Development possibilities

This is the land around the estate available for property development (e.g addition of hotels, golf courses, spas etc). This is used to increase the estate's value and gate fees. Also efficient in persuading visitors to stay longer than intended.

Estate Property

You can buy property to increase the value of your estate e.g hotels, golf courses, spas etc.

Estate Revenue

Estates earn money from Skewlgate travel whenever a user lands on their page. An estate also gives back 1/100th of her worth everyday to the house that owns it.
